Switzerland boasts one of the richest landscapes of Europe for historic buildings and castles. The new “Castles of Switzerland” map shows the many and varied fortresses, castles and stately homes of Switzerland and adjacent parts of neighbouring countries. The two map sheets show more than 4000 features dating from prehistoric times to the present day, divided into 23 cartographic object classes. An accompanying brochure contains detailed maps, short descriptions and local information for every site and makes them all easy to find. The map and the explanatory texts together form an outstanding resource for heritage experts as well as for interested travellers and the general public.
The new “Castles of Switzerland” map, the result of an excellent technical collaboration between the Swiss Castles Association and the Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo), is of great historical and cultural importance for Switzerland.
