Details
A very attractive and detailed A2-size map showing the whole of the Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Helderberg wine districts, including the southern Paarl estates. Coverage extends from Khayelitsa and Gordon's Bay on False Bay in the south-west corner to Villiersdorp and the Limietberg Reserve in the east, and Klapmuts in the north.
Relief is depicted by elevation tinting, spot heights, and contours at 20m intervals.
Road information includes minor roads and tracks, plus private roads with access by permission only. Railways are shown with stations and symbols depict an enormous range of features: accommodation and camping sites, farms, farm stalls, various outdoor recreation sites, landmarks, etc. Most importantly, wine estates are marked, indicating those with tasting and restaurant facilities. In the surrounding mountain ranges nature reserves and wilderness areas are marked, with hiking trails clearly highlighted, showing names of various routes. Latitude/longitude grid is at 10’ intervals.
On the reverse are street plans of Franchhoek and Stellenbosch, both annotated with accommodation (listed with phone numbers), restaurants, etc., plus a plan of the Somerset West - Strand - Gordon's Bay area. There is also a list of accommodation (including on wine estates) throughout the whole area cross-referenced to the general map, and a table of the wine estates with opening days and respective facilities. The map was researched and drawn by Peter Slingsby - renowned environmental educator and cartographer.
At the time of revising this description (January 2007) there are no plans to publish Cape Winelands No.2.
