Details
A detailed, double-sided map showing the whole of the Agulhas Plain, the southernmost area of African continent. Relief is depicted by elevation tinting, spot heights, and contours at 200m intervals. Road information includes minor gravel roads, private roads indicating whether entry is allowed to visitors, intermediate driving distances on most roads, and locations of petrol stations. Routes which are particularly attractive - or conversely, worth avoiding - are indicated. Symbols depict an enormous range of features: accommodation and camping sites, farm stalls and other local produce shop (cheese, dried or fresh fish), wine cellars, breweries, various outdoor recreation sites (golf, paragliding, etc), landmarks, nature reserves, animal and bird watching sites, etc. Trails open to hikers are clearly highlighted. The map has no geographical coordinates.
Enlargements at 1:40,000 show the Cape Agulhas area (with Africa’s southernmost point, at 34º49’58” south and 20º00’12” east), and the Gansbaai/Danger Point Peninsula area. There are also plans of Arniston Waenhuiskrans, Bredasdorp, Braardskeerdersbos, and Elim. The map was researched and drawn by Peter Slingsby - renowned environmental educator and cartographer.
