Details
One of the titles in a series of hiking and leisure maps published by New Zealand’s Dept. of Conservation, the body responsible for managing the country’s 14 national parks and several of its forests and other protected areas. Scales and cartography vary according to the area covered. Most titles are based on the 1:50,000 topographic survey, with contours and relief shading, and highlight tramping paths and huts maintained by DOC. On the reverse there are notes describing the areas and various routes, etc.
In this title: contours at 50m intervals with colours and graphics indicating the type of terrain and vegetation. Overprint shows short walks, walking and tramping tracks. Symbols highlight accommodation facilities, including huts maintained by DOC indicating capacity, places of interest, sport and recreational facilities, fuel supplies, etc. The map has a New Zealand Map Grid and latitude/longitude margin ticks at 5’. On the reverse there are enlargements for Franz Joseph Gracier/Waiau (1:60,000), Fox Glacier/Te Moeka o Tuawe (1:60,000), and Aoraki/Mount Cook (1:40,000) areas, as well as extensive notes on the whole area, suggestions for short walks, and an index of localities, roads and tracks, peaks and passes, etc.
