Details
One of the titles in a series of hiking and leisure maps published by New Zealand’s Dept. of Conservation, the body responsible for managing the country’s 14 national parks and several of its forests and other protected areas. Scales and cartography vary according to the area covered. Most titles are based on the 1:50,000 topographic survey, with contours and relief shading, and highlight tramping paths and huts maintained by DOC. On the reverse there are notes describing the areas and various routes, etc.
In this title: an older map, published in 1997 and not yet included in the recent revision this series. The map has no contours, only relief shading plus colours indicating various types of vegetation. Overprint highlights walking and tramping tracks and symbols show accommodation facilities including campsites, motorcamps and private and public huts, and various sport and recreational facilities: mountain biking, fishing, rafting and canoeing, etc. The map has a New Zealand Map Grid and latitude/longitude margin ticks at 5’ intervals. An enlargement at 1:41,000 shows the area around Lake Waikaremoana in more detail. The map is indexed and includes on the reverse notes on the area and various recommended walks.
