Details
A interesting and useful map for railways fans and travellers. On one side is the main map of the whole of Australia at 1:5,500,000 on which railways are highlighted. Colour coding distinguishes various gauges and identifies particular scenic, long-distance routes (including The Ghan) which are also described in information panels. The map is indexed not only for locations but also the numerous local rail & heritage train operators and rail museums nationwide, for which essential features are stated, along with phone numbers and website details. Miniature railways, preservation groups and some tour operators are also listed, although these are not cross-referenced to the map.
On the reverse are cartograms (not-to-scale, stylized maps) depicting suburban rail & tram networks in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne & Brisbane, and other networks in further selected regions eg. northern Queensland, southern NSW. These indicate gauges, operators, stops, journey times, service frequencies and some ferry connections.
