Details
A beautiful map of Mount Everest and its immediate area, extending north into Tibet. The rock and ice of the mountains are finely drawn in Swiss cartographic style, giving a vivid impression of the landscape. Trekking routes are shown, and contours appear at 40 metre intervals. A UTM grid is shown at 5km intervals, with latitude and longitude shown by margin ticks at intervals of 1'.
On the reverse is an enlargement of Mount Everest with the routes of various expeditions between the first ascent in 1953 and 1990 overprinted on it. It may be of interest to map enthusiasts that the vertical datum on this map is the summit of Mount Everest (assumed value 8848m) and other heights are calculated downwards from that.
