A detailed map of this popular region from Mossel Bay to Storms River, with town plans and extensions west to Heidelberg and north to Oudtshoorn. The excellent main map at 1:220,000 gives detailed presentation of the coastal stretch reaching as far inland as the Outeniquay and Tsitsikamma Mountains. Contours at 100 m intervals, elevation colouring and spot heights portray the relief. Roads are differentiated according to the type of surface, indicating private sections, locations of petrol stations, mountain passes, and intermediate road distances. Railways and selected major hiking trails are also marked. Symbols convey a whole range of information: accommodation (hotels, lodges, B&B, self catering, hostels, caravan sites, campsites), numerous recreation facilities (golf, horse riding, mountain biking, paragliding, climbing sites, watersports, etc), game and other animal viewing places. Reserve boundaries are also marked.
On the reverse the coverage is extended westwards to Heidelberg and Cape Infanta at 1:400,000, and to Oudtshoorn and Prince Albert (North of George and Mossel Bay) at 1:220,000. Larger scale maps at 1:40,000 cover George, Plettenberg Bay, Sedgefield, Knysna, Mossel Bay and Great Brak River. These only name major roads but also show relief and include many symbols for tourism features and other useful information eg. accommodation, markets, car parks, restaurants, information centres. Annotations provide contact details for local tourist information resources. A set of diagrams show the height and span of four bridges carrying the N2 highway across rivers. The map was researched and drawn by Peter Slingsby - renowned environmental educator and cartographer.
