A4-size paperback atlas with 34 pages of road maps at 1:1,250,000, followed by more detailed mapping of 16 popular tourist areas, 46 street plans, 16 diagrams of routes connecting major towns, access to main airports, and explanations of road signs. The cartography is clear and easy to read, with some relief colouring and shading. Mountain ranges are named, main peaks marked, and the passes shown along the roads. Other information includes toll gates, national parks and reserves, places of interest and historical sites, etc. The maps also show the railway network with names of stations. Coverage includes Lesotho and Swaziland with the same information as for South Africa. Latitude and longitude are shown in the margins at 1º intervals and by cross ticks on the maps.
Sixteen of South Africa’s most visited regions are shown in the next section on more detailed maps, with scales varying according to the size of each area, from 1:250,000 for the Cape Peninsula, to 1:800,000 for the Garden Route, and 1:1,000,000 for the Kruger National Park or the KwaZulu-Natal coast. Overprint highlights numerous places of interest, wine farms, battlefield sites, selected accommodation, etc.
Detailed plans of 46 towns are shown at 1:22,500. For main cities like Cape Town, Durban, or Johannesburg, maps of the central areas are supplemented with a general map of the whole conurbation. Route diagrams show 16 roads connecting major cities, with exits to connecting roads and distances between junctions. There are also diagrams of access to the three international airports, explanations of road signs, and an index of place names.
