One of the titles in a series of hiking and leisure maps published by New Zealand’s Dept. of Conservation, the body responsible for managing the country’s 14 national parks and several of its forests and other protected areas. Scales and cartography vary according to the area covered. Most titles are based on the 1:50,000 topographic survey, with contours and relief shading, and highlight tramping paths and huts maintained by DOC. On the reverse there are notes describing the areas and various routes, etc.
In this title: contours at 100m intervals with colours and graphics indicating the type of terrain and vegetation. Overprint provides tourist information: hiking trails, different types of accommodation including campsites and huts, places of interest, etc. The map is drawn on the New Zealand Map Grid and has map ticks indicating latitude and longitude in steps of 1'. On the reverse there are enlargements showing the Dart and Rees rivers areas in greater detail, plus descriptions of main points of interest and an index of localities.
