One of the titles in a series of basic, black and white dyeline maps of the main trekking areas of Peru, prepared by the South American Explorers Club as supplements to the country’s topographic survey and designed to highlight trekking circuits. The maps show local villages and settlements with limited topographic information: rivers (with bridges and fords) and lakes, mountain passes, but contours are provided only for some of the surrounding mountains and not, with the exception of the Inca Trail, for the whole area covered by the map.
In this title: the Inca Trail from Km88 to Machu Picchu, with an annotated plan of Machu Picchu itself. Contours are at 100m intervals, with the map also indicating forested or “puna”” grasslands areas. The route is divided into 15 stages, each accompanied by a brief description and marked on a profile of the whole route. Two tables show distances and durations of the stages, plus locations of camping sites. The map, prepared in 1989, also includes a plan of the ruins at Machu Picchu.
